¡Hola! My name is Lizzie Bailey, and I am currently pursuing my M.A.Ed. in Secondary Education at the College of William and Mary. My content area is Foreign Languages, specifically Spanish, and I have been placed at Jamestown High School with Ana Honeycutt.

Throughout my education I have been fortunate enough to have had many wonderful teachers who inspired me to become a teacher myself. By being so excited, they made class exciting, and I can only hope to do the same. I hope to create a student-centered classroom with a focus on interaction and collaboration. Communication is essential to learning another language after all. By sharing my passion for Spanish language and culture with my students, I hope that they, too, will come to develop an interest in and a personal connection with the subject. By teaching my students another language and about the peoples that speak that language, I hope to open their eyes to new worlds that they previously could not participate in. Learning a new language opens up a plethora of opportunities. I want to equip my students with the language skills and cultural knowledge that they would need to safely and enjoyably get by in a Spanish-speaking country. "Knowing" a language is about interacting and communicating in that language with other speakers of that language. Just knowing how to conjugate verbs is not enough.

My biggest teaching fears tie into my hopes; I fear that I will not be able to effectively communicate my passion for Spanish language and culture to my students, that they won't be as excited about it as I am, and that I won't be able to interest them in it at all.
